Peter Stris elected to American Academy of Appellate Lawyers

Stris & Maher LLP is honored to announce that co-founding partner Peter K. Stris has been elected to the American Academy of Appellate Lawyers (AAAL). The AAAL was founded in 1990 to advance the administration of justice and encourage the highest standards of professionalism and advocacy in appellate courts. Prospective members must be nominated by a current Fellow, thoroughly vetted by the legal and judicial communities, and elected to the fellowship by the AAAL Board of Directors. The organization is limited to 500 lawyers, who must each “possess a reputation of recognized distinction as an appellate lawyer.”

Based in Los Angeles, Mr. Stris handles a broad array of complex business appeals before courts throughout the nation. Later this year, he will present his eighth oral argument before the United States Supreme Court, in Fourth Estate v. Wall-Street.com.

In addition to the AAAL, earlier this year Mr. Stris was also elected to the California Academy of Appellate Lawyers (CAAL). The CAAL is the nation’s oldest lawyers’ organization dedicated to appellate practice. CAAL members are California lawyers with substantial appellate experience, who are elected to membership after rigorous scrutiny of their skill in advocacy before the appellate courts. To be considered for membership, a lawyer must have been lead counsel in at least 25 appeals and have presented oral argument in at least 15 appeals. Since CAAL was founded in 1972, approximately 200 lawyers have been admitted.
