Dmitry Slavin

After beginning his career at a major law firm in Washington, DC, Dmitry became an Assistant United States Attorney in the Eastern District of Kentucky. As a member of the fraud unit, he focused on complex financial crimes, recovering large sums for defrauded victims. In recognition for this work, he was awarded the office’s Crime Victims’ Rights Award.

When a foreign government asked for help in retrieving sensitive information that was being used to extort them, Dmitry stepped in, recovered the information, and obtained a conviction after a jury trial.

Dmitry was also a key part of the district’s appellate work. He submitted briefs and argued Sixth Circuit cases for his own cases and those of other AUSAs, including arguing on back-to-back days. He also became the go-to attorney for preparing other attorneys to argue.

Dmitry later moved to the Department of Justice’s National Security Division. In that role, he was involved in some of the Department’s most difficult and high-profile cases. He represented the Department in federal courts across the country. He co-led multiple complex jury trials involving years of preparation, hundreds of exhibits, and massive amounts of discovery. He traveled the world training foreign prosecutors in best practices for handling terrorism cases and battlefield evidence. For his trial work, he received multiple awards from the Assistant Attorney General for National Security.

Dmitry is passionate about trial work and has frequently worked with college and law school mock trial teams in competitions. He taught trial advocacy as a Professional Lecturer in Law at the George Washington University Law School in Washington, DC.

Dmitry received his law degree from Yale Law School in 2012, and his undergraduate degree from Washington and Lee University in 2009, where he graduated summa cum laude. After law school, he clerked for Judge John M. Rogers of the United States Court of Appeals for the Sixth Circuit.
