An equally divided Supreme Court affirmed the ruling of the Fifth Circuit in Dollar General Corporation v. Mississippi Band of Choctaw Indians, preserving the Choctaw tribe’s right to have its courts hear a suit involving the sexual molestation of a young tribal member at a Dollar General store.
Stris & Maher, on behalf of Mississippi, Colorado, New Mexico, North Dakota, Oregon, and Washington, had filed an amicus brief urging the Court to uphold the tribal courts’ authority to hear the suit.
