Jeff Hahn

Jeff Hahn is an experienced civil litigator and appellate advocate whose career includes over a decade with the U.S. Department of Labor (DOL) litigating complex ERISA cases that recovered over $100 million for American workers. In leading DOL’s ERISA appellate program, Jeff also filed dozens of briefs in the courts of appeals on novel ERISA questions.
Before joining the firm, Jeff spent 12 years at DOL litigating ERISA cases from the investigation stage through trial. His experience extends to ERISA plans of all stripes, including employee stock ownership plans, health plans, life insurance plans, multiple employer welfare arrangements, and wellness plans. Practical and results-oriented, Jeff played a leading role in securing landmark settlement agreements reforming fiduciary practices in multiple areas while restoring substantial losses to ERISA plans. Jeff also oversaw DOL’s ERISA amicus and appellate program for four years, filing briefs and participating in oral arguments in appellate courts throughout the country.
Prior to his time at DOL, Jeff worked for six years at Miller and Chevalier in Washington D.C., litigating cases that ran the gamut from ERISA, the False Claims Act, the Securities Exchange Act, and the Foreign Corrupt Practices Act. Jeff also co-authored a number of Supreme Court amicus briefs in criminal cases before the Court.
Jeff received his J.D. from the University of Texas, graduating with Honors, and his B.A. from Emory University, from which he graduated with High Honors and Phi Beta Kappa.

Negotiated multi-million dollar settlement that included pathbreaking fiduciary process agreement for ESOP transactions.
Wilmington Trust ESOP Settlement
Negotiated $80 million global settlement agreement that resolved multiple DOL lawsuits and investigations into Wilmington Trust’s ESOP transactions.
Acosta v. City National Corp.
Convinced the Ninth Circuit to uphold DOL’s multi-million dollar summary judgment victory in fiduciary breach lawsuit concerning recordkeeping fees.
