Mr. Geyser is a member of the firm’s nationally recognized U.S. Supreme Court and appellate practice. Since joining the firm in 2016, he has worked in a significant capacity on nearly every major appeal the firm has handled. For instance, he led the briefing in Fourth Estate v. Wall-Street.com, a unanimous Supreme Court victory for the firm’s client in 2019, and led the drafting of the successful petition for certiorari in Thole v. U.S. Bank, N.A., to be argued by firm partner Peter Stris in January 2020. Mr. Geyser also has an active practice before the federal circuits. For example, he successfully argued a bankruptcy appeal that convinced the Ninth Circuit to create a circuit split by rejecting a decision of the First Circuit.
Prior to joining Stris & Maher, Mr. Geyser served nearly four years as an Assistant Solicitor General in the Office of the Solicitor General of Texas. In that capacity, he served as lead appellate counsel in over fifteen appeals and argued in the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Fifth Circuit (four times), the Texas Supreme Court (two times), and intermediate Texas appellate courts (six times). He also regularly advised attorneys on appellate and trial strategy and assisted other attorneys in oral-argument preparation. Mr. Geyser is a recipient of the National Association of Attorneys General’s Best Brief Award for excellence in brief-writing before the U.S. Supreme Court.
Mr. Geyser has extensive experience in a wide variety of substantive fields, including administrative law, arbitration, Article III, bankruptcy, intellectual property, class actions, civil rights, consumer protection, employment discrimination, environmental law, ERISA, First Amendment, Medicaid fraud, state sovereign immunity, and taxation.
Mr. Geyser received his J.D. from Columbia Law School, where he was a Notes Editor on the Columbia Law Review, a three-time James Kent Scholar, and a recipient of the Young B. Smith Prize and the Richard J. Lipson and Paul S. Lipson Prize. After graduation, Mr. Geyser clerked for the Honorable A. Raymond Randolph of the U.S. Court of Appeals for the District of Columbia Circuit. Mr. Geyser graduated from Stanford University with honors in Economics.
